Quick summary
Invisalign is a system for clear alignerscustom-made transparent aligners manufactured from a digital model of your mouth. Each set is worn for 7 to 14 days and applies gentle forces calculated in advance.
The difference compared to traditional orthodontics is that Clear aligners are removableyou take them off to eat and to brush your teeth.
In many cases, they are placed attachments (small tooth-coloured bumps that give the aligner a grip point) and is done IPR, a polishing of a few tenths of a millimetre between teeth. Both are removed when finished.

It depends on the movement your teeth need, not on how much you want to avoid braces.
The only way to clear up any doubts is with an examination. Dr. Lissett evaluates your case with an X-ray and scan on your first visit.
Yes. There are specific system versions: Invisalign First, designed for children who still have a mix of baby and permanent teeth, and Invisalign Teen, for adolescents, which includes usage indicators and planned space for the teeth that have yet to emerge. In both cases, the assessment is the same: first we look at dental age, not just chronological age.
Children's orthodontics deserves a separate explanation and we will cover it in detail in its own article. If you are interested for your son or daughter, request your first visit from us and we appreciate it.
How we work
The process of designing and manufacturing the Invisalign device is quick and easy. Here are the six steps, from the first visit to the final result.

During the visit, we'll explain what Invisalign can do for you, which It is not only useful for minor irregularities. Dr. Lissett Rodríguez, an orthodontist at the clinic, will evaluate your teeth and gums and tell you honestly whether you're a good candidate.

With the intraoral scanner we make a digital model of your teeth, without moulds or impression paste. On that model we show you the simulation of what your smile would look like after the alignment.

Based on the scan, Dr. Lissett prepares the digital treatment plan. Invisalign manufactures the set of aligners according to that plan. The number of aligners depends of the movements that your teeth need.

We place on the teeth the attachments that keep the aligner in place and we give you all the instructions for use. You take your aligners with you: They are removable and you take them out to eat.

You change the aligners yourself at home every 7 to 14 days, and they move the teeth into the planned position. The process is simple and convenient, and you only need to come in for a check-up every 6–10 weeks.

Most treatments are completed between 6 and 18 months, without metal braces and very discreetly. Upon finishing, we move on to the retention phase to maintain the result. Book your first visit and we'll look at it.

It's worth saying precisely. In a single visit We do the 3D scan, study, and simulation of your smile: you leave knowing if you are a candidate, how long it would take, and how much it costs.
In cases resolved with aligners made in our clinic, we can deliver the first ones to you that same day, because we design and print them here.
The Invisalign aligners, on the other hand, are manufactured in Align Technology's lab and arrive in a few weeks. There is no same-day delivery option for Invisalign, and we'd rather you know that up front.
For those just passing through or living away for part of the year, concentrating diagnosis and decision-making into a single morning makes a big difference (see orthodontics).
The 3D intraoral scanner it replaces silicone moulds: a small camera scans the dental arches and builds an exact digital model. For anyone with a gag reflex, the difference is huge.
Based on that model, the treatment is planned and the smile simulation, which you see on the same day. It's a forecast based on the digital plan, with no guaranteed result: biology and hours of use play a role.
The same digital workflow lets us 3D-print models and appliances in our own laboratory.

We work with several clear aligner systems, and we choose the system according to the case, never the other way around.
Invisalign It is the system with the most clinical history and the most resources for complex movements. Spark offers a high-transparency and good-fit material (see Spark). The aligners printed in our clinic they provide speed in selected cases.
During the first visit, we explain which one best fits your movements and your budget, along with the advantages and limitations of each.
Braces are not a thing of the past: in certain cases they remain the best option and we say so openly.
| Appearance | Invisalign (aligners) | Fixed braces |
|---|---|---|
| Visibility | Very discreet in daily interaction; the attachments are appreciated up close. | Visible; the ceramic aesthetic ones, quite a bit less. |
| Comfort | No chafing wires. Pressure during the first few days of each aligner. | Possible chafing on lips and cheeks after adjustments. |
| Hygiene and meals | You take them off: normal brushing, no forbidden foods. | Laborious brushing; avoid hard or sticky foods. |
| It depends on you | Much: without 20–22 hours a day the treatment is delayed. | Little: they are bonded on and work even if you forget. |
| Indicative cost | Aligners are usually positioned somewhat above metal brackets and close to aesthetic ones. View prices. | |

A clinical decision that changed the plan
A patient arrived at the clinic after several professionals considered that their malocclusion and the change it produced in their facial profile required maxillofacial surgery. At first glance, it seemed like the most likely approach.
Before deciding, Dr. Lissett made a bite analysis, a tomographic evaluation, and a digital simulation. The study showed that, in this specific case, the bone support allowed for a conservative alternative.
A treatment was chosen with clear aligners and the movements were planned progressively. The patient was able to complete the treatment without surgery, with functional and aesthetic improvements consistent with the clinical plan.
The important thing was not avoiding a specific technique, but studying all options before indicating an irreversible intervention. Some malocclusions do require maxillofacial surgery; examination and diagnostic tests make it possible to distinguish them.
I want to evaluate my caseAnonymized clinical case. Each malocclusion presents different conditions and requires an individual diagnosis.
Mild cases resolve in a few months; most of them are between 6 and 18 months. It depends on the necessary movements and, above all, on how many hours you have been wearing the aligners.
Aligners are worn for 20 to 22 hours and they are removed for eating and for any drink other than water: coffee, tea, and wine stain, and heat deforms plastic.
The first few days of each aligner you will notice pressure and sensation of loose teeth. It is not intense pain, and if it appears, let us know. Speech returns to normal in a few days.
To clean them, a soft brush and lukewarm water, never hot. If you lose or break one, call us before improvising.

Interim monitoring
At the clinic, we also work with Invisalign Virtual Care, the digital tracking system for your treatment. It works like this: from the application My Invisalign you take some photos of your mouth with your phone, following the guide that appears on the screen, and upload them.
Dr. Lissett reviews and verifies them if the teeth are moving according to the plan. If everything goes as it should, you continue with your aligners without moving on. If something doesn't fit—an aligner that doesn't seat properly, an attachment that has come off—adjust the change schedule or he will schedule you for an in-person visit.
For those who live away part of the year, travel for work, or simply don't want to ask for time off at the office every six weeks, this completely changes the treatment: fewer commutes, while remaining supervised at all times by your orthodontist.
Virtual Care complements in-person check-ups, it doesn't replace them entirely: we still see you in the clinic at key moments of your treatment.

A very common question
In most cases yes, but each type of previous work has its particularities and it is best to know them before starting.
A crown moves like a natural tooth because the root is still there. The only practical difference is that The attachments don't always grab the same way on porcelain or composite rather than enamel, so sometimes it is necessary to rethink where to place them.
An implant is anchored to the bone and It doesn't move. That does not prevent treatment: it is planned by moving the surrounding teeth and using the implant as a fixed point. What does matter is the order — if you are missing teeth, it is often advisable align first and place the implant second, so that it stays in the correct position (view implants).
You can wear aligners with veneers already in place. If you are also thinking about replacing them, the logical order is usually align first and do the veneers at the end: When the teeth are in the right place, less grinding is needed and the aesthetic result is better (view dental veneers).
If any piece is missing, the plan can take advantage of the space to align the rest, close it, or leave it prepared with the exact gap for an implant or a bridge. It is decided in the initial study, not on the fly.
The rule that doesn't change: Before moving a single tooth, the mouth must be healthy.. Cavities, inflamed gums, or a failing crown are treated first. All of this is seen on the X-ray and scan from the first visit.
During or after
It is one of the questions we are asked the most, and the answer is reassuring: you can whiten during the treatment or after finishing it. Both ways work and we will choose with you the one that best fits your case.
During treatment. The aligners themselves double as the whitening tray to apply the gel at home, so there is no need to manufacture anything separately. We always do this with our own guidelines and instructions, adjusting the gel and the times so that it does not interfere with the daily use of the aligners.
Upon finishing. With the teeth already aligned and the attachments removed, the product reaches the entire visible surface equally. Here the clear retainers what do you use to maintain the results of a whitening tray.
The practical difference is in the attachmentswhile they are on, they cover a small part of the tooth. It does not prevent whitening — we assess this and take it into account when planning — and if, upon removing them, you would like to match the shade, a touch-up session is done at the end.
In both cases, consult us before using any whitening product on your own: the gel and the instructions are prescribed at the clinic.
Teeth tend to move over the years, whether orthodontic treatment has been done or not. That is why retention is not optional If you want to maintain the result. It is quoted separately from the aligner treatment, and we will tell you its cost before starting.
We usually combine a fixed retainer (a thin wire glued behind the teeth, which is invisible when speaking) with a removable clear retainer like Vivera, for long-term nighttime use. It is checked during follow-up visits.
We will tell you in writing which retainer your quotation includes and which do not (see what is included).

Frequently asked questions
It doesn't usually hurt. The first two or three days of each aligner, you will feel pressure or a loose-teeth sensation: this is the sign that they are moving. If severe or persistent pain occurs, notify the clinic.
They are transparent and fit the tooth, so they go largely unnoticed in daily interactions. Up close and with good light, the tooth-coloured attachments are visible.
No. They are removed for eating and for any drink other than water, because coffee, tea, and wine stain the plastic and the heat deforms it. The advantage is that there are no forbidden foods.
Between 20 and 22 hours. It is the factor that most influences the treatment progressing on schedule. The remaining hours are divided between meals and hygiene.
It depends on the movements needed for each case. Mild ones can be resolved in a few months, and most range between 6 and 18 months. The estimated duration is given after the 3D study.
Rinse them every time you take them off and brush them with a soft brush and warm water, never hot. Avoid coloured mouthwashes. Always store them in their case, never in a napkin.
There is no maximum age. What matters is the condition of the gums and bone, not the year on the ID card. Many patients start after 50 or 60.
Clinical supervision. In Spain, the General Council of Dentists and the Spanish Society of Orthodontics (SEDO) have warned about aligners sold without a diagnosis or in-person monitoring. Here, there is a prior evaluation, follow-up reviews, and a responsible orthodontist.
Call the clinic before doing anything. Depending on the stage of your treatment, we will instruct you to go back to the previous aligner, move on to the next one, or replace the lost one. Never improvise on your own.
Yes. You can whiten during the treatment or after finishing it: both options are possible. During treatment, the aligners themselves serve as a tray for the gel, always following the instructions we give you at the clinic. Upon completion, with the attachments removed, the product reaches the entire surface equally and the retainers act as a tray.
In most cases, yes. Crowns move like a natural tooth because they retain the root; implants do not move, so they are used as a fixed point and the movement of the rest is planned around them. We evaluate this with the X-ray and scan from the first visit.
