DENTAL HYGIENE
Sometimes caring for our dental hygiene becomes so routine that it isn't done in the best way. To avoid getting cavities or other oral diseases, pay attention to these 10 simple tips that will help you maintain effective oral hygiene.
1. Regular check-up.
Dental visit, at least once a year.
And from a very early age; since the first tooth may erupt and cavities can appear.
2. Brush three times a day.
Brush your teeth three times a day and after every meal.
Essential; before going to bed and after getting up in the morning.
3. Use fluoride toothpaste.
It is recommended to use a fluoride toothpaste to prevent the appearance of cavities.
4. Brush smartly.
Proper brushing consists of making short, gentle, and elliptical movements, without forgetting the gum line, the back teeth (which are hard to reach), and the areas surrounding dental crowns and fillings. Do not share your toothbrush. The exchange of bodily fluids that this would promote increases the risk of contracting infections for those who share them. This is a particularly important consideration for people with compromised immune systems or infectious diseases.
5. Replace your toothbrush often.
Experts recommend replacing your toothbrush every three months to prevent periodontal disease.
6. Don't forget the dental floss. Use dental floss daily; the best time to use it is at night, since the lack of salivation while sleeping favors the action of bacterial plaque.
7. Rinse yourself. Mouthwashes or oral rinses are an important aid in keeping your mouth healthy and preventing diseases and infections. Remember that they do not replace proper tooth brushing.
8. Eat a healthy diet. A varied and balanced diet also helps strengthen the immune system so it can defend against any infection in the oral cavity. Limit snacking between meals.
9. Chewing gum helps you. If you eat away from home and cannot brush your teeth, turn to sugar-free gum, particularly those that use xylitol as a sweetening agent (it has a certain bactericidal action). Stimulating saliva secretion leaves your teeth in contact with the best anti-cavity agent that exists: your own saliva.
10. Do not overuse bleach. Although they are effective for brightening teeth, when used excessively and continuously, they can end up damaging the enamel.
