Clinical comparison of invisible orthodontics
Invisalign vs. Graphy: What's Different and How to Choose the Right Aligner
Invisalign and Graphy straighten teeth using clear, removable aligners, but they are not two names for the same thing. They are manufactured differently, use different materials and software, and do not have the same clinical track record.
At Clínica Dental Los Cristianos, we work with both. First, we evaluate the bite and movements; then we recommend the system we consider most appropriate.
The short answer
Invisalign has a much longer clinical track record and a well-established digital platform. Graphy allows for direct 3D printing of the final aligner, customisation of specific areas, and, in select cases, a reduction in the number of attachments and manufacturing lead time.
None of those differences makes one system better for everyone. The choice depends on tooth movement, gum and bone health, the need for auxiliary devices, and patient priorities.

Sharing an initial price does not mean they are interchangeable. Consult How Invisalign Works and the Graphy aligners printed in-office.
Invisalign: Thermoformed Aligner and Consolidated Platform
After the scan and record-taking, the professional prepares the treatment in ClinCheck. Invisalign manufactures the aligners using SmartTrack. 3D printing is used in the production of the models, but the aligner worn by the patient is created by thermoforming a sheet; it is not a final aligner printed directly.
Its clearest competitive advantage is the maturity of the system. Much of the clinical literature on clear aligners has been based on Invisalign. That does not make the simulation a sure thing: accuracy varies depending on the movement, and rotations, torque, intrusion, extrusion, or expansion may require attachments, elastics, overcorrections, or refinements.
Graphy: Direct printing of the final aligner
With Graphy, the aligner is designed digitally and printed directly using a light-curing resin. This eliminates the step of thermoforming a sheet over a model.
Direct printing allows modifying margins, thickness, and certain biomechanical elements. The material is designed to recover its shape with heat. Laboratory studies support interesting mechanical properties, but also show that thickness, printing orientation, washing, and post-curing change the behaviour.
There is not yet the same volume of independent, long-term clinical comparisons as there is for Invisalign. Graphy is a promising technology for which the clinical evidence continues to grow.
Does Graphy need fewer attachments?
You may need them less in certain cases, but “no strings attached” should not be promised before the study.
An attachment is a small composite protrusion that helps the aligner apply a specific force. Invisalign frequently uses them to control complex movements. Graphy allows for the incorporation of pressure zones and changes in thickness within the aligner itself, so that some treatment plans can be carried out with fewer attachments or without them at all.
That does not mean avoiding them is always better. If an attachment improves the control of a movement, using it may be the most predictable option.
Which one allows you to start earlier?
Invisalign aligners are manufactured off-site after the treatment plan is approved; there is a production and shipping lead time. Graphy aligners can be printed in-office, and once the records are complete, the treatment plan has been reviewed, and the case is suitable, the first aligners can be manufactured the same day.
“Same-day aligners” does not mean “teeth aligned in a day.”. The wait to begin is only getting shorter. The movement still needs weeks or months, consistency, and check-ups.
Do braces move teeth faster?
It cannot be stated generally. The duration depends on the initial position, the movement of each piece, periodontal health, actual hours of wear, biological response, and the need for refinements.
The rapid fabrication of Graphy reduces the initial waiting time or the need to replace an aligner; it does not mean that the bone and teeth must move more quickly. Nor is there a single adjustment interval—7, 10, or 14 days—that is always best for all cases.
Which one is more predictable?
Invisalign has much more experience and accumulated clinical evidence. This is particularly important when combining complex movements. However, a digital prediction is still just a plan—not a guaranteed outcome.
Graphy provides control over thickness and design and prevents certain thermoforming distortions. These manufacturing advantages do not, on their own, lead to better overall clinical outcomes.
- Invisalign: greater accumulated clinical backing.
- Graphy: greater manufacturing and design freedom in the clinic, with younger evidence.
- In both: diagnosis, planning, and monitoring determine the outcome.
Comfort, discretion, and materials
Both systems are transparent, removable, and discreet. Both produce pressure when starting a new phase and must be removed for eating and brushing teeth.
Graphy may be more visually discreet when the case allows for only a few attachments. Invisalign may result in tooth-coloured attachments that are visible at close range. It cannot be said that one is always more comfortable: factors such as the margins, fit, retention, individual sensitivity, and the phase of treatment all play a role.
In Graphy, proper washing, post-curing, and finishing are essential. Laboratory evidence regarding printed resins is not entirely consistent, so we avoid claiming that a material is “safer,” “fully biocompatible,” or “microplastic-free.” If an unexpected reaction occurs with any aligner, it should be removed and a healthcare professional consulted.
Price of Invisalign and Graphy
- Invisalign: from €1,999 or from €70/month.
- Graphy: from €1,999 or from €70/month.
- Indicative intermediate case: around €3,000.
- Indicative complex case: up to €4,000.
- Removable retainer: €150.
- Fixed retainer: €150.
- Expander or auxiliary device: from €499.
Prices are indicative and come from the current rate. The budget depends on the complexity, phases, refinements, and ancillaries. Financing can be up to 60 months, subject to conditions and approval.
When we usually evaluate each option
Invisalign can be particularly meaningful when…
- Does a platform with an extensive clinical track record add value?;
- consolidated complex and auxiliary movements are needed;
- Is there a specific indication for First or Teen?;
- The orthodontist considers certain functions of the system useful.
Graphy can be particularly useful when…
- the case can take advantage of a low-attachment design;
- It is important to reduce the wait time to start or replace aligners;
- the patient spends periods outside of Tenerife;
- It is advisable to customise the thickness or integrate elements into the aligner.
They are not automatic rules. A person who wants to avoid attachments may need them; another who arrives asking for a brand can benefit from the other.
How we decide on the first visit
- We study the bite, not just the visible teeth.
- We check gums and bone.
- We indicate the radiographs needed for planning.
- We value space, rotations, torque, and root movements.
- We decide if attachments, elastics, or other auxiliaries are needed.
- We are talking about 20–22 hours of use and your periods away from Tenerife.
- We deliver price, inclusions, and retention in writing.

Conclusion: Graphy or Invisalign?
- Valora Invisalign due to their clinical history and consolidated platform when these features add value to the case.
- Valora Graphy if in-office printing, digital personalisation, or the possibility of fewer attachments provide a concrete advantage.
- Do not choose solely based on the brand, manufacturing speed, or an attractive simulation.
The appropriate option is the one that allows executing the necessary movements with a realistic plan, clinical controls, and a complete budget.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Graphy better than Invisalign?
Not universally. Invisalign has a longer clinical track record; Graphy offers direct impression and design flexibility.
Can Graphy be used without attachments?
In selected cases. In others, attachments or auxiliaries may be necessary.
Does Graphy make your teeth move faster?
There is not enough clinical evidence. It can reduce manufacturing waiting times, not biological times.
How much do they cost?
Both currently start from €1,999 or €70/month. The final price is provided after the evaluation.
Which one has more scientific evidence?
Invisalign. Graphy has promising evidence regarding materials and biomechanics, but fewer long-term clinical studies.
Will I need retainers?
Yes, with both systems. Without retention, the teeth can move back.
